Inlay technique

Here is one of the most difficult decorating techniques of bonsai pots, called the "inlay technique".

The first step of the inlay technique is to carve the picture or writing into the leatherhard clay. If it is red or black clay, the indentations will subsequently be filled with a contrasting clay, in this case with white clay.

It requires very elaborate and precise work, so that no inaccurate contours or blurring will occur.

With such a technique one must be extremely patient in order to succeed in making a fine pot.
